Macquarie University Health's Clinical Trials Unit is offering a unique opportunity for a skilled and curious nurse to play a vital role in delivering cutting-edge therapies and investigations to patients across a wide range of diseases. In this 2-year fixed-term position, you will work within a highly collaborative, well-resourced team of over 60 professionals supporting hundreds of patients across more than 150 active clinical trials. About the Role

As a Registered Nurse (Clinical Trials), you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care to participants enrolled in clinical trials, attending to their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs. Working alongside clinicians, study coordinators, pharmacists, lab technicians and radiologists, you will be an integral member of the clinical trial team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical support including collecting biological samples, administering study medications (oral, injection and infusion), monitoring vital signs, conducting ECGs and assisting trial participants with medication management and adverse event monitoring.
  • Delivering compassionate, holistic care to clinical trial participants and communicating effectively with their support networks.
  • Communicating clinical trial processes and results to participants with empathy, clarity and accuracy.
  • Resolving and/or appropriately escalating participant issues with confidentiality and sensitivity, respecting patient privacy at all times.
  • Mentoring and supporting Clinical Trial Coordinators with patient care activities.
  • Supporting staff and patients with education regarding trials and investigational medications.

About You

You are a passionate, empathetic and patient-focused Registered Nurse who thrives in a collaborative team environment. Whether you bring direct clinical trials experience or a genuine enthusiasm to develop in this space, you are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to research that improves patient outcomes. You are an excellent communicator, a supportive team player willing to share workload and take initiative, and you bring strong organisational skills to manage the demands of a fast-paced clinical setting.

Selection Criteria

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Hospital-based clinical nursing experience with a demonstrated commitment to high-quality patient care.
  • Previous experience in oncology and/or clinical trials is desirable. Please specify the therapeutic area, the level of patient interaction and summarise the responsibilities you had in the relevant roles you have had.
  • Competency in venepuncture, cannulation and administering medications including intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • Experience developing and delivering patient education with empathy and accuracy.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
